YYCFoodTrucks - Summer Frenzy in the East Village

by The Six Foot Canasian

If you didn't get enough of the good eats at the East Village Block Party or the Simmons Building grand opening ... you get three more days of foodie heaven! The YYCFoodTrucks Summer Frenzy drew people out of the secluded, air-conditioned homes (on a weekend with record-breaking highs) for some great sounds, culinary treats and shopping adventures!

Amidst all the construction going on to get First and Evolution finished in time for anxiously awaiting owners, the 5th Street Square was sectioned off to make room for 20 different food trucks and vendors in the city's smallest urban park. The vibe from the East Village Block Party and Sled Island continued on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday as people from across the city gathered for ice cold treats from The SnoBox and Fiasco Gelato, fresh ingredients from Family Squeezed Lemonade and Cru Juice, and global cuisine from Vietnam (Subs 'n BubblesBun Boys), the Ukraine (Perogy Boyz), Africa (Take It & Go) and everything in between! Now ... I can't have the burgers (which smell like heaven, by the way) but the onion rings, poutine and deep fried pickles at Wilk's Booth ... need I say more?!?!? For those of you vegetarians, vegans or people just looking for lighter fare, Yummi Yogis offers up a mean Whole Bowl that will surprise most carnivores in the group! My personal fave was the Catfish Po-Boy from Sticky Ricky's ... "YALL GOTTA COME SEE"!

As always, the Bass Bus did not disappoint as DJs and live performers took the stage in the Village Brewery Beer Gardens. The caps were twisting as this little village on the Bow River was certainly "raising the beer"! There were "Grandfathers", "Blondes", "Maidens" and (possibly) "Triplets" tipping bottles back in the main square ... but it made me wonder when Village Brewery would have a "CanAsian" beer on store shelves?!?!? I was even looking in the bushes and the trees for Larry the Village Friar ... with NO LUCK. Next time little man!

Vendors were also on hand sharing their locally made and supported fashions, accessories and such ... but they also provided welcome shelter from the sweltering heat and sun as the clouds were not in sight. The Crafted Artisan TruckSparrow Apparel and I even got myself a YYCFoodTrucks t-shirt (been there and DONE that)!

The Summer Frenzy wasn't just for us humans, either! Vendors and event organizers had something for our four-legged friends, too! Canine Water Stations were all around the beer gardens, they had access to a tether ball and (obviously) all the leftover food that just SHOULDN'T go to waste!

To check out the pictures from the weekend event, you can check them out on FacebookTwitterInstagram and Pinterest.

YYCFoodTrucks ... I'm going to be stalking your website every day to find out when your having your NEXT Frenzy!
